Fuji 2203G Semi-PRO 2 HVLP Spray System Reviewed
The gravity-fed (cup on top) HVLP system from Fuji is arguably one of the best DIY paint sprayers on the market. For the series home improvement DIYer, to the garage hobbyist, the Fuji 2203G Semi-Pro 2 HVLP spray system is all you will need.
The system uses Fuji Spray’s 2-stage turbine, which produces 5 PSI of pressure. Combine that with the non-bleed gravity gun, and you can tackle just about any project. This model is even suitable for spraying automotive finishes and painting fences.
You will also find that the 25-foot hose means you won’t have to lug the unit around or transport it often. Once you are set up and painting, you can continue until the paint cup runs dry. The system comes with a universal 1.3mm air cap already installed, and all of the tools needed to complete the setup and get to work are in the box.
With a 2-year warranty, Fuji will be right behind you should anything go wrong. You can also call their customer service experts with any questions, including setup, proper use, or simple general inquiries.

Advantages & Disadvantages
There is little I can say about this system in a negative light. The advantages far outweigh the disadvantages, and I will cover those first.
The system is set up and ready to go right out of the box. Once you attach the hoses and gun, you can add water or solvent to the gravity cup to rinse out the system and be painting your project in less than 20 minutes.
The 2-stage turbine is stronger than you can imagine, and even thick paints are atomized with ease. Water-based and oil-based paints flow through the Semi-Pro 2 Gravity like water, and you don’t have to worry about splatters, drips, or bleeding, either.
Clean up can be a bit tedious. There are a lot of small parts that need to be hand scrubbed when you are done using it. Proper care and maintenance are a condition of the warranty, too, though, so you should take the time to learn the process. Once you have practiced tearing down and cleaning the gun and assembly, you can have the whole system cleaned up in less than 15 minutes.
The only other bad thing I can say is that thicker latex paints need to be thinned more than you might want. In general, a 10% water reduction is requested from latex sprayers, though the Fuji system might require up to 14%.
If you are doing a lot of latex spraying, you may consider upgrading to the Mini-Mite 3, which is more adept at latex paints.
What Is The Fuji 2203G Good For Painting?
You can paint anything with the Fuji 2203G. It is ideal for cabinets, furniture, automotive, and small projects, though. Because it is an HVLP sprayer, using it on walls, fences and exterior projects may not be suitable. You will use more paint with this system than you will with an airless paint sprayer or traditional system.
However, the finish is professional, no matter what you paint.
Comparisons With Other Paint Sprayers
How does the Fuji 2203G stack up against other sprayers? It depends on which one you are comparing it to, of course.
The Fuji Mini-Mite 3 is a much more expensive model and gives you the same results. However, the Mini-Mite 3 is also better equipped to handle thicker paints without thinning. Depending on your intended use and upcoming projects, the 2203G is the better option. Unless, you want to spray a lot of latex or lacquers, in which case the Mini-Mite 3 is your better option.
If gravity-fed systems aren’t your thing (cup-on-top design), then the Fuji 2202 Semi-Pro 2 is what you want. It has the same features as the 2203G, except it offers you a more traditional cup-on-the-bottom design.
You may be interested in looking at the Wagner FLEXiO 890 model. This HVLP sprayer is lighter, and more portable and offers you a detailed finish sprayer as well as a more traditional wide-range sprayer. The Fuji 2203G has a better quality finish and is more durable, but for simple projects and less frequent use, the savings may appeal more to you.
Fuji 2203G Price
This model is certainly not the cheapest, but it comes highly rated and is well-priced given the features at around $399.00. Free shipping is generally offered by top retailers.
What Customers Say
Ninety-six percent of buyers rate this product 4-5 stars, giving it a rate of 4.7 stars out of 5. A high score for one amazing product.
My spray needs are limited to custom woodworking finishes. Aside from nail/staple guns and a few other tools I don’t use compressed air that much. So when my 60 Ga compressor gave up, I did the math and some research and decided to spend my new compressor money on Fuji Semi PRO 2 with gravity fed gun.
I have never regretted my decision to switch. I find this turbine system user friendlier, more versatile, and much easy on finishes compared to any of the compressor driven gun setups I’ve used. One of the things I wasn’t impressed initially was a much smaller cup size this system comes with – 400 cc as I’m used to bigger 1,000 cc cups.
However, I was pleasantly surprised the very first time I used it. I’ve heard about less overspray turbine systems known for, but I couldn’t believe Fuji would save that much finish. Also with humid weather on its way, no more fuss over and additional expenses on conditioning and cleaning the air supplied by a compressor
I bought this spray gun because I wanted to expand my painting business to include kitchen cabinets and furniture. It lays down paint like glass and my customers couldn’t be happier.
Not many people still paint/lacquer furniture in this area and those that do use a brush. The finish produced by my Fuji wins hands down and I have a number of ladies in town using me exclusively for their furniture flipping businesses. Do yourself a favor and get one it will pay for itself quickly.
When you’re ready for the step up to professional results, this unit is your ticket to the major leagues. Fully professional results from a “semi-pro” unit. Absolute mirror finish results with minimal learning curve.
There are many instructional videos on YouTube. Definitely worth the time to look at. I bought this to paint some new fenders for my car. I’m thoroughly pleased. Many people I’ve shown agree. Make the move – step on up.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I set up and use a Fuji 2203G paint sprayer?
Setup for the Fuji 2203G is a simple process. After removing the packaging, you need to connect the hose and gun to the turbine box. The air cap is already installed, but you should double-check that the fittings are all tight and secure. Plug the machine in and fill the paint cup with a cleaning solvent or warm water. Run the sprayer for about 3 minutes to clean out any deposits or oils leftover from the manufacturing process. Once you finish, fill the paint cup with your paint and spray it into a waste bucket for about 30 seconds.
What types of paint can I use with this sprayer?
You can use any paint with this sprayer. However, thicker paints like latex, varnishes, and lacquers will require extra thinning; otherwise, you can upgrade to a system better suited for these paints, like the Fuji Mini-Mite 3.
Is this expensive model worth the money?
If you plan to do more than a single project with your new sprayer, the Fuji 2203G is well worth the cost. The versatility and performance of this sprayer make it one of the most cost-effective HVLP sprayers on the market.
If you require a paint sprayer that produces a professional-quality result, the HVLP sprayer is one to consider. By virtually eliminating overspray common with airless sprayers, the more detailed HVLP systems use more paint, thicker coats, and a more even application.
The Fuji 2203G Semi-Pro 2 Gravity is one of the top reviewed and most respected models available. From kitchen cabinets to automotive refinishes, you won’t be disappointed with the cost or the results.
